Adam Barclay was born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio, and is a graduate of Zanesville High School. Following graduation, Adam attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where he majored in Political Science and History. During College he started his professional career as an intern for then Lieutenant Governor Nancy P. Hollister and after graduation from Capital worked for three different Directors of the Ohio Department of Insurance who were appointed by Governors Voinovich and Taft. He held various positions working primarily in the Executive Office of the Department of Insurance.
Adam brings a unique perspective to his practice of law as he attended Capital University’s evening program where he worked full-time and attended law school in the evenings going year-round for nearly four (4) years. This program allowed him to gain vital real-world experience while preparing for the practice of law.
Adam’s first position was as an Associate at Zellar and Zellar Attorneys at law in Zanesville, becoming a partner at Zellar and Barclay Attorneys at Law. In 2015, Adam made the choice to join John Allen and Jan Baughman and is now a partner at Allen & Baughman.
Adam is known for tempering aggressive representation of his clients with compassion and a practical minded approach to each case. He understands that each case is unique and treats cases and clients accordingly. When meeting a client for the first time, he takes the time to explain the legal aspects of the case but will also explain the legal process and the anticipated costs associated with each client’s case. He routinely tells clients that he “wants them to go into their case with eyes wide open” as to their likelihood of prevailing as well as the costs associated with their case.
Adam is a Past President of the Muskingum County Bar Association and served as the Chair of the Certified Grievance Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Muskingum County Community Foundation serving as Vice President and Chair of the Real Estate Committee and a Board Member and Vice President of the Bethesda Care System. He is an Adjunct Professor at Muskingum University teaching both Business Law and Business Ethics and a former Adjunct Professor at Zane State College where he taught Real Estate Law.
